Summary
Welcome to the COP27 Food and Agriculture Pavilion Daily Recap, providing a snapshot of activities in and around the Pavilion. As delegates and observers to COP continued to arrive in Sharm El-Sheikh, on Monday, November 7, more than 100 world leaders gathered to officially open the UN-led international climate talks. On Tuesday, November 8, Maria Helena Semedo, Deputy Director General of FAO, and Rajiv Shah, President of The Rockefeller Foundation, and Claudia Sadoff, Executive Managing Director of CGIAR, officially opened the Food and Agriculture Pavilion.

The Pavilion provides a gathering place for partners and stakeholders, with two weeks of event programming, meeting spaces, and conversation opportunities. Events will be available via livestream or recordings through the homepage, ensuring engagement and learning can reach people all over the world.
Events began on Sunday, November 6, with CGIAR’s Africa-based Regional Integrated Initiatives profiling engagement and work with partners across the continent. Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hany Sweilam, delivered opening remarks at the event, while Martin Kropff, CGIAR’s Managing Director for Resilient Agri-Food Systems outlined the approach CGIAR and its partners will take to address challenges to Africa’s food, land, and water systems in the face of the climate crisis. Through side events in the pavilion during the first three days of the COP, the co-hosts and partners:
- Unveiled knowledge and initiatives to foster transformative adaptation approaches and respond sustainably to food security challenges, addressing root causes of vulnerability while contributing to sustaining peace. Learn more.

- Explored how regional collaboration, improved policies and increased investment for desert farming can help mitigate and adapt agriculture to the climate crisis. Learn more.

The pavilion also played host to several bilaterals, including meetings with Esperança da Costa, Vice President of Angola; Johan Rockström, Joint Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and EAT Foundation Board Member; and Rodger Voorhies, President, Global Growth & Opportunity, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
